Battery Deeply Discharged Or Activation Fails

Use this path when the battery is deeply discharged and the charger is not completing the wake-up or activation sequence.

Before escalating, use the universal reset once: disconnect AC power for 30 seconds, confirm the LEDs are fully off, then reconnect.

Quick Pre-Checks

Run these quick checks before you assume the charger has a deeper hardware fault.

AC socket is energised. Test it with another appliance.

AC plug is fully inserted, undamaged, and its pins are clean and straight.

DC output connector is fully locked into the vehicle inlet, not just inserted.

Both AC and DC cables are free of cuts, kinks, crushing damage, or severe bending.

Charger vents are unobstructed and have at least 10 cm clearance on all sides.

Ambient temperature is below 45 C.

No extension cord is being used, or the cord is correctly rated and within the allowed length.

Universal reset has been tried: AC off for 30 seconds, then reconnect.

Step-by-Step Field Checks

Follow the steps in order. Stop and escalate as soon as a step says the issue is not field-serviceable.

1

Verify polarity before anything else

Activation Mode has no reverse-polarity protection and no short-circuit protection. Confirm Red or Brown = Positive (+) and Blue or Black = Negative (-) every time.

Polarity first: Red or Brown = + | Blue or Black = -
2

Connect DC first, then AC

Seat the DC connector in the vehicle inlet before energising AC. Never power an open DC connector during activation.

DC first -> then AC and switch on
3

Do not interrupt the first 15 seconds

The charger needs the full 5-second listen window plus up to 10 seconds of activation to complete the wake-up attempt.

Wait 15+ seconds before deciding
4

If the charging LED begins flashing

Activation succeeded. Leave the charger connected and let the battery complete a full charge cycle.

Do not disconnect once charging has started
5

Retry only within the safe limit

If charging has not started, disconnect AC for 30 seconds and retry. Stop after 3 correct attempts.

Maximum 3 attempts, with 30 s AC-off rest each time
6

When to stop trying

If the pack is below about 1 V per cell, or activation still fails after 3 correct attempts, the battery may be beyond recovery or the BMS may be damaged.

Do not continue repeated activations. Have the battery assessed professionally.
If the charger shows a fault pattern at any point, cross-check the LED sequence on the LED Fault Codes page before retrying power cycles.
